Johann Reiter Classical
Guitar
Up for consideration is a vintage JOHANN REITER classical
guitar and case. This guitar was handmade in the famous musical
instrument town of Mittenvald,
Germany in 1967, and I am the original owner. This guitar
has also been fitted with a L.R.
Baggs Dual Source pick-up, which is a $200 value by itself.
Here is a rare chance to pick up a wonderful German handmade
acoustic/electric classical guitar.
This was one of my very first guitars, and has been with me for
over 40 years. I used it to learn guitar on a TV program with
KQED's Laura Webber, and also in music school at the University
of North Texas in the late1970s, and then had the pickup
installed for playing local gigs in the 1990s. I also used it
for playing church music at St. Mary's Cathedral. Since
my switch to playing Classical
Harp Guitar full-time, I no longer have any need for
this nice guitar, and hoping to find it a good home. The shorter
638 mm scale length is ideal for women or for players with small
to medium size hands. 1270 DPI high resolution photos are here.
It would make a great amplified nylon-string guitar for playing
local gigs, and also works very nicely for recordings (see sound
clips, below).

ABOUT THE LUTHIER
The Johann Reiter family has been involved in instrument
making in Mittenwald, Germany for well over 100 years. The workshop
was founded by Johann Baptiste Reiter (1834-1899), who studied
violin-making with Johann Baader and Jean Vauchel, and won several
medals and awards for violin-making. He was the leading violin
maker in Mittenwald, where out of the total population of 1,800
-- a full 300 were violin makers!!! After the son Johann Reiter's
death, Erich
Sandner took over Reiter's workshop

CONDITION
This guitar is in fine condition for a 40-year-old onstrument.
It has one repaired crack in the top (repaired by Collings Guitars
luthier, Ed Reynolds, who also installed the Dual Source pick-up),
and some of the finish is worn from the lower bout, and there
is a unfilled hole in the heel cap where a strap button had been
installed. The rest is just minor wear from normal use. The guitar
is built like a tank -- in typical German fashion -- and should
last for many more decades of music.
SOUND
The guitar has a nice, vintage sound, with good resonance
and good balance between the trebles and basses. Here are several
sound files to give you an idea of what to expect. All sound
clips are recorded with no compression, EQ or reverb -- just
mic'd through a a Wunder CM7GT and a Neumann Gefell
CMV 563 tube mics, into a Presonus ADL 600 preamp
into a Rosetta 200 A/D converter.
